A great tip came in from Dana Brunetti, a No Agenda producer on Hulu. Dana had a very useful suggestion: visit unclaimed.org, and enter your name to see if you have any unclaimed money waiting for you. Many people don’t realize they may have refunds or money held by the state, especially if they haven’t accessed certain accounts in a while.

For example, in California, if you leave money in a bank account and don’t touch it for about a year, the bank can send that money to the state under escheatment laws. When you try to access your account, you may find that the funds have already been transferred. This happens because the state takes control of inactive funds, and it’s up to you to reclaim them.

Interestingly, I discovered that I had refunds from State Farm Insurance that I wasn’t aware of. Instead of those refunds just sitting in limbo, I can now claim them through the site. Dana’s suggestion doesn’t just stop at finding your money—he humorously added that if you do find unclaimed funds, you might want to consider donating a portion to support No Agenda. He jokingly suggested 20% as a good rule of thumb!

The process is fairly simple. By visiting unclaimed.org, you can search for unclaimed money in many states. However, if you’re in California or certain other states, you may be redirected to a state-specific site to complete the process.

In summary, there’s likely money out there with your name on it—just waiting for you to claim it. Take a few minutes to check and see what you might find.
